The Las Vegas Rotary Club, established on April 5, 1923, is part of one of the largest and most influential international humanitarian service organizations in the world. The first Rotary meeting was held in Chicago on February 23, 1905 led by Paul Harris, Rotary’s founder. Since then, Rotary International has grown to serve communities throughout the world. Today Rotary’s 1.2 million members belong to over 33,000 Rotary Clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.
The Rotary International theme of “Engage Rotary, Change Lives” represents RI President, Ron Burton’s belief that “when you make the decision to truly engage Rotary — to bring Rotary service and Rotary values into every day of your life — that is when you start to see the incredible impact that you can have. That’s when you find the inspiration, the excitement, and the power to truly change lives. And no one’s life will be changed more than your own.
” Rotary’s top philanthropic goal is to eradicate polio.
In 1988 350,000 cases of polio were reported, compared to
only 223 in 2012. The Las Vegas Rotary Club
leads our District in financial contributions to aid Rotary International in this effort. To accomplish this goal, Rotary International works closely with the World Health Organization, United Nations, UNICEF, the Gates Foundation and governmental agencies.
A few of our club’s hands-on projects include an annual Canned Food Drive, Community Grants Program and Santa Clothes. Santa Clothes was started in 1996, taking 35 needy children shopping for clothing and shoes and has grown to include over 300 children each year.
The Las Vegas Rotary Club meets every Thursday at noon at Lawry's, The Prime Rib located at 4043 Howard Hughes Pkwy, Las Vegas, NV 89169. We look forward to welcoming visiting Rotarians and potential new members.
Yours in Rotary,
