The Las Vegas Rotary Club presents the Wetzel Award
The Las Vegas Rotary Club of Las Vegas,
Nevada has instituted the Wetzel Award. This award is given
in memory of Colonel Scotty Wetzel, a long-time Rotarian and
a patriot. Scotty died unexpectedly in May of 2003 from
post-surgery complications. Wetzel Awards are given each
quarter to three deserving Air Force enlisted persons at
Nellis Air Force Base. The commander of the Air Warfare
Center at the time, General Steve Wood, asked our club to help reward
the “unsung heroes” at the base, those folks who work hard,
are role models and yet do not get formal recognition for
their exemplary efforts in support of the mission of the
base. Scotty Wetzel challenged our club to support the
general’s request and we responded enthusiastically. As a
result, each award recipient receives a $150 gift
certificate to be used for dinner at one of Las Vegas’
premier restaurants, Lawry’s The Prime Rib, and four tickets
to a show at the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino.
We are proud to sponsor the Wetzel
Award and look forward to thanking deserving enlisted men
and women at Nellis Air Force Base for years to come.
