DESCRIPTION:Lynn Marie Goya was elected as the Clark County Clerk and has been serving since January 2015. Clark County\, which contains the famous Las Vegas Strip\, issues approximately 80\,000 marriage licenses per year to couples from over 160 countries around the world. The local wedding industry generates over 18\,000 jobs and contributes over $2.5 billion in annual economic activity. When Goya discovered a 37 percent decrease in wedding tourism\, she immediately took action\, working with the legislature to create a special wedding promotion fund that generates over $1 million per year. She created a public/private partnership with the wedding industry that evolved into the Las Vegas Wedding Chamber of Commerce and works closely with Las Vegas Convention and Visitor’s Authority (LVCVA)\, Travel Nevada and Brand USA.  \nPrior to being elected\, Goya was a freelance journalist who wrote for local\, regional and national publications including USA Today\, Audubon and the Boston Globe. She is an award-winning playwright\, an Emmy-nominated writer\, received the Frederick L. Ryan Award for Economics; the JCPenny Golden Rule Award for community leadership and the EMERGE Nevada 2016 Alumni of the Year.  \nAchievements and Initiatives:\nImplemented a secure online and in-person credit card processing service to reduce cash intake and allow the department to collect online order requests 24/7;\n•	Created a simplified website for couples\, MLIC.VEGAS\, with a QR code that chapels and wedding planners can use on their literature to direct  customers to our mobile-friendly application.  Now\, 100 percent of the  couples use the online application\, which reduces wait time for couples and printing costs for the department;\n•	Worked with the legislature to provide much-needed technology funds to all Nevada county clerks;\n•	Developing a strategy to balance privacy of personal information with public access to information;\n•	Implemented a strategy to protect digitally archived permanent public records to secure and protect them from potential data loss or ransomware threats;\n•	Digitizing county permanent public records that date back to 1909 and creating a transparent public search;\n•	Overhauled the marriage officiant application process and implemented a mandatory training program to ensure officiants understood their rights and responsibilities to the state;\n•	Streamlined the certificate filing process saving hundreds of hours of staff time;\n•	Reorganized the Clerk’s Office management team and created a new system for employee review and training;\n•	Created an online scheduler for civil marriage ceremony and passport acceptance appointments. \nAwards and Recognition:\n•	NACo 2018 Achievement Award for revising the marriage officiant application process\n•	2016 NACRC Best Practices Award\n•	NACo 2016 Achievement Award for “Low-Cost Tech Innovations Save Time and Money for County Clerk”\n•	Women of Distinction Award for Corporate and Government Services from the National Association of Women Business Owners of Southern Nevada.

SUMMARY:Marta Meana - UNLV
DESCRIPTION:UNLV President Marta Meana has served in many roles during her 20-plus years at UNLV. A licensed clinical psychologist and top researcher in her field\, Meana is also a respected administrator\, teacher\, advisor\, and mentor. She was appointed acting president of UNLV by the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents\, effective July 1\, 2018. \nA professor of psychology at UNLV since 1997\, Meana was named dean of UNLV’s Honors College in 2012 and previously served as senior advisor to the university president. \nSince Meana arrived as dean of UNLV’s Honors College\, enrollment in the select program has more than tripled. The Honors College attracts top undergraduates from Nevada and throughout the nation and is a partner with discipline colleges at the university in which Honors students pursue academic majors. \nA renowned scholar in the field of clinical psychology\, Meana’s groundbreaking research has reshaped clinical approaches to women’s health and human sexuality. She has published two books and close to 80 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. \nMeana has earned multiple university\, state and national awards during her career\, including a Nevada Regents Excellence in Teaching Award\, Nevada Senatorial Recognition for Teaching\, UNLV Distinguished Teaching and Graduate Academic Advisor awards\, the James Makawa Award for outstanding contributions in psychology\, and the Masters and Johnson Lifetime Achievement Award. \nMeana joined the psychology department at UNLV in 1997 after completing a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at McGill University\, a pre-doctoral internship at the University of California\, San Diego\, and a post-doctoral research fellowship in women’s health at the University of Toronto.

SUMMARY:Daniel Liles - Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar
DESCRIPTION:Daniel Liles is a proud native of Las Vegas and 2011-12 Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar sponsored by District 5240 in California. In\, 2010 he graduated from California Lutheran University\, where he earned dual Bachelor degrees in International Relations and Music\, specializing in piano performance. It was a professor at his university that first introduced Daniel to Rotary and he quickly became interested in getting involved with the organization and pursuing the ambassadorial scholarship. \nAfter graduating\, Daniel was selected to be a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar sponsored by the Rotary Club of Thousand Oaks. He spent his year of service with District 3010 in New Delhi\, India. While in India\, Daniel worked in the largest slum in Delhi to revitalize a Rotary sponsored school. Daniel also was enrolled full time in an academic program studying International Development. After returning\, and speaking with over 20 Rotary clubs both in India and the United States\, Daniel was honored with a Paul Harris Fellowship from his sponsor club. \nAfter his Ambassadorial year\, Daniel was selected to a two-year fellowship with Teach For America\, an organization that works directly with public education schools to address educational inequity. Daniel began his teaching career in special education at Dell H. Robison Middle school in the Clark County School District (CCSD)\, the same district from which he graduated. During this time\, Daniel completed a Master’s degree in Education from UNLV. \nCurrently\, Daniel is serving in a new role as an Instructional Coach at Will Beckley Elementary school. In this role\, Daniel works directly with teachers and community partners to provide the highest quality education possible for the students he serves. \nOutside of school\, Daniel actively engages with the Education community on various levels. He is currently serving a two-year term on the State Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory Cabinet\, is an instructor for an undergraduate and graduate education course at UNLV\, was selected as a Teach Plus Education Policy fellow in 2018\, and is also an alumni and steering committee member of the Teacher Leader Academy at the Public Education Foundation
