DESCRIPTION:Dr. Thom Reilly\nChancellor \nThe chancellor is appointed by the Board of Regents to serve as chief executive officer for the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). He supervises the eight NSHE presidents and ensures the Board of Regents policies are implemented throughout the system. As chancellor\, he is the System liaison with the governor\, state legislators\, and other public officials and community leaders. \nDr. Thom Reilly was appointed by the Board to serve as NSHE’s chancellor starting August 2017. Prior to his appointment\, he served as director of the Morrison Institute for Public Policy at Arizona State University where he also was a professor in the School of Public Affairs. He currently is a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and professor emeritus at San Diego State University. \nHe previously served five years as county manager for Clark County and was vice chancellor of the NSHE Health Sciences System. \nReilly has extensive experience in the private sector\, serving as managing principal of The Reilly Group\, a management consulting firm and as former vice president of social responsibility at Caesars Entertainment\, Inc. He has held senior administrative positions with the State of Nevada\, overseeing income maintenance programs and the statewide child welfare system. He also was a former director and professor for the School of Social Work at San Diego State University. \nReilly has authored numerous published works on public pay and benefits\, governance\, HIV\, and child welfare. He and his work have appeared on NPR’s “Here and Now\,” PBS NewsHour\, CNN Money\, and Fox Business News\, and in The New York Times\, Wall Street Journal\, The Guardian\, Law 360\, Governing\, Businessweek and The Associated Press. He is co-editor of the Ethics\, Corruption and Governance Series for Rowman & Littlefield Lexington Books. SUMMARY:The Vocational Training Team from Australia
DESCRIPTION: Rebecca Tolstoy AM     Margaret MacDonald          Mark Crake             Sarah-Jane Sharp          Spiro Gougoulis             Stg Darrel Hagan \nSix Western Australians are in District 5300 for 3 weeks\, as part of a Vocational Training Team\, between District 5300 and District 9455. Each team member is associated with Path of Hope\, a collaboration between Rotary and the Salvation Army\, whose mission is to break the inter-generational cycle of family and domestic violence. This program is the brain-child of Monrovia Rotarian Herb Heslip\, who endowed the cost of this exchange. Its beneficiaries are restricted to District 5300 and the Rotary districts of Australia. \nPath of Hope is an approach that mobilizes the organizational capacity of Rotarians to support agencies and services that provide safety and empowerment to women and their children escaping family and domestic violence. The impact upon the well being of the person experiencing the violence can be profound\, and life-threatening. Children in these families are at risk of developing post-traumatic stress and developmental disorders. These disorders can deliver a lifetime of emotional and economic cost to the individual and the community. The capacity to be violent to a loved one is a learned behavior and there is also a risk that those who grew up with it will continue the behavior in their own families. This is the cycle that needs to be broken. \nWhile in Las Vegas the team will visit Clark County School District\, Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center and the Las Vegas Metro Police Department with stops at both the Green Valley and Las Vegas Rotary Clubs.
